The Mobile Mining program is a combination of work-readiness training, simulator training and on-site experience. It has received significant support from both government and industry, and it reduces the training time for plant operators from three months to eight weeks by allowing trainees to achieve 80 per cent of their competencies with the use of simulators. Mining companies then complete the training process by providing final pass-out on machinery for trainees while on site.
Our program can be adapted to suit different levels of abilities for trainees, and as a precursor to the main program we can run a life skills program depending on the skills and needs of the trainee group.
The course is developed by and for industry, is nationally accredited and delivers eight units of a Certificate 2 in coal or metal (including a generic induction to coal and metal mines). The mining program involves a four day program using state of the art mobile simulators, which instruct trainees how to operate mining equipment such as dump trucks, excavators and loaders, dozers, graders etc, as well as training them in relevant mine safety requirements. For a list of the consoles used on the simulator, email tishara@rby.net.au.
The course is not just about preparing operators for mine work. It is also structured to provide the basic preparation for any type of work in the mines.
